We are your national paralegal organization representing the interests of paralegals from coast to coast in Canada. The society originated in Ontario in 1992 and has been in operation since that date actively seeking to further the interests of paralegals and to provide protection to the consumer from unscrupulous individuals who were seeking to take advantage of unsuspecting clients.
Regulation on Bill 14 governing paralegals by The Law Society of Upper Canada is now pending and will come into full force in January of 2008. Now more than ever paralegals need active representation and a strong voice not only to promote our image but also to insure that our discourse with the Law Society as paralegals will carry considerable weight in decisions made concerning our future rights in representing our clients. The Paralegal Society of Canada intends to be this voice representing the interests of all of our members much like provincial bar associations do for lawyers. Without a show of strength and cohesion amongst ourselves we will be unable to promote our interests and the interests of our clients in our further negotiations.
In the coming months we will be hosting a number of information sessions as well as our convocation for members in order to promote education in preparation for the upcoming examinations set by The Law Society. We are encouraging full cooperation at this time with our new regulators in order to make this process as seamless as possible and would like to offer as much assistance as we can to our members.
On another note we are also funding a court challenge to Bill 14 to which we will be providing you with updates.
If you are not yet a member of our society we look forward to you becoming a member. If you are already a member we look forward to your continued support and hope to see you all at our fall conference on September 29th, 2007 at 10 a.m. at the Richmond Hill Country Club.
